Casino Gambling
U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, said Friday he hoped the Holy Spirit would inspire voters to come out in droves against a plan to put casinos in the state's major cities. Separately, an organization opposing the casinos tried to draw more attention to a key casino backer's arrest on a gambling charge 27 years ago.
A land-based casino could be a partial solution to Chicago's financial crisis, but only if it's government-owned because City Hall has to "deal with all the repercussions of gambling," Mayor Daley said.
